It is very embarrassing to have your own federal government so wrong on crucial matters such as climate change and the treatment of refugees.

I suspect many Australians have welcomed voices such as Naomi Klein who speaks so forcefully on this topic and how Australia is so out of step with the rest of the world, thanks to Tony Abbott and his corporate backers.

However, given that in the recent past Australia has led the world on so many social and political issues, it just seems unbelievable that we have descended so far down on how we are dealing with issues – thanks to Tony Abbott and his corporate backers.
