search for yummy honey

a taste of honey

A couple of months ago I wandered into the local Coles supermarket to buy a bottle of a Coles own brand of honey (Coles Finest) that I had been enjoying for a few years. It came with four different versions. All were good and I would swap between them for variation. This brand was one of my more regular choices for honey.

Having moved to Melbourne, I was yet to find an acceptable and yummy honey so this one from Coles was a good standby (rating 7 out of ten).

BUT, it was not on the shelf and a later search revealed that it had been discontinued. Maybe I was the only one buying it? Gone!!!!

I did try this other one from Coles. It was very ordinary and had very little real honey taste (rating about 2 out of ten). The bottle with its remaining contents was thrown out after this photograph.

In a nearby deli I purchased this  bottle of ‘Pure Peninsular’  honey. It had been mentioned in searches as a good honey here in Melbourne. It was an acceptable taste (rated 7 out of ten) but this jar may have been on the shelf a little too long as it already had that candy taste and texture.

Next I tried a bottle from a nearby ‘bulk foods’ store. This was OK!  First rating for this is 8 out of ten. This brand has a couple of versions (Red Mallee and Red Gum) and I am about to try the second flavour. Good chance this will become a stand-by brand.

Still puzzled why Coles removed that better honey from their shelves.

There are problems with some of the honey being sold. Some of it is not genuine.

I suggest that the two Melbourne brands above are fine.
