Looking into the past

A  coastline missed

While I am enjoying our move in late 2023 to Melbourne from Canberra, and have no regrets about the decision to have permanently left Canberra, there are aspects of a former life that will be missed.

One is not having the New South Wales coast nearby or at least within reach. The image above was taken from Stanwell Tops overlooking Wollongong.

Sometimes when driving back from Sydney to Canberra, a fun alternative route was to take the highway south through the southern suburbs of Sydney, then through the national park and to stop to view Wollongong. Then we would head inland and rejoin the main highway south to Canberra.

My former self identifies still with the south coast. Sometimes I had imagined that it was somewhere on the NSW south coast that was where I would live out my life. All that is now a thing of the past.

The south coast and its views and beaches remain a part of my memory – a part of my life – or at least my former self.

Today and for the remaining years – I am on holidays in Melbourne – so much to see and enjoy.
