visiting Australian & International exhibition
Another auction exhibition and another exhibition of works that appear for a few days and then off most of them go to private collections.
This selection of Australian & International works had a few gems. In among them were a selection of small works from the early 20th century groups – with one woman artist of particular interest. There were seven paintings by Alma Figuerola (1895-1969) that attracted attention (see more on this below).
Sitting among the indigenous works was one by Emily Kame Kngwarreye – My Country 1995. Estimate $30,000 – $40,000. Hammer price: $36,000
A small Conrad Martens watercolour above.
The above painting (woman reading) by Alma Figuerola was listed for $1,500 – $2,000. It is a beautiful work! Would love to have taken this one home!
Obviously others agreed – with the final hammer price being $17,000.
The one (Woman reading on a bench) above by Alma Figuerola was listed for $500 – $800 – and went for the hammer price of $5,500.
