NGV Women Photographers review

1900–1975: A Legacy of Light

With the opening of National Gallery of Victoria’s photography exhibition, open till 3rd May 2026, comes this review. There are many other online articles but most are simply rehashing the media releases.

This one by Union Magazine is actually a review and worth reading. The author Sebastian Moore does state  what he missed and how he would have curated differently and made alterative choices. Is he looking for a job?

The pleasure in such large exhibitions is also viewing through the imagination and perspectives of the curator. There’s always something not included.

In this case, the exhibition is from the NGV’s own collections.

But I definitely agree with Sebastian’s comments about how institutions have become addicted to chaos and noise – in the quest to provide mass audience events. Usually at the expense of the artworks.

Here’s the Union magazine review.
