Sam Lee and Friends

Review: Music
Sam Lee and Friends

It was while researching the actor, Juliet Stevenson, that I was led to the music of a band in which her stepson was a player. Sam Lee is a collector of folk songs and then publishes and performs them through a wonderful use of instruments and song.

A YouTube production:  Over Yonders Hill : Sam Lee and Friends

Good Bye My Darling

The Ballard of George Collins (Live)

for more on Sam Lee,  there is a long article in the Guardian – click here

in recommending this music, please note that you will have to have liking for English folk, even though in this case it is very contemporary folk. There’s a hint of Martin Carthy, and maybe Fairport Convention, then  overlayed with roots music from Roma, Gypsies and Scottish and Irish Travellers.

Recommended: Rating 8/10
